Released: soft answers

First of all, this latest Janes scenic drive release is experimental ambient.

Specifically, you get dark ambient space music with an interesting layer of texture and a definite sense of beauty and mystery. Emotionally, soft answers lingers dangerously near the border of something forbidden.

The tracks included here were created on the Access Polar synthesizer using a single patch that self-randomized as I played it. In addition, I used the Polar’s randomization feature to further randomize the patch itself while I was recording.

These recordings were all made within a few hours of each other on June 4, 2011. They were each recorded in one take. What you hear is what I heard as I played it using the keyboard. As such, what you have with soft answers is experimental ambient improvisation. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it, incidentally and immersed in the moment.

now to then 0-compression Flac

Oops!

When I created the Flac file for the 68 minute version of now to then for Archive.org, I didn’t realize the compression level was set to 2. That version of now to then is 110 MB.

I’ve uploaded an additional now to then Flac file at Archive.org that is at 0-compression. You’ll notice that its file size is 222 MB.

It’s called: now_to_then_0_comp.flac

Here is a direct link if you want to download it:

Thank you to Darrell Burgan for the heads up!

Released: now to then

With the release of now to then this is, I hope, the first of many long-form ambient drones released by Janes scenic drive.

The 68 minute version in MP3 and Flac is here:

http://www.archive.org/details/NowToThen

NOTE: I’ve uploaded a 0-compression Flac file at Archive.org. Thanks to Darrell Burgan for the heads up. Check here.

The 30 minute version, as either a free or a name-your-price download, is available here:

http://janesscenicdrive.bandcamp.com/album/now-to-then

Now to then is the longest single piece of ambient music I have ever created. But the content is more important than the length, and this drone has an atmosphere best enjoyed at about 1/4 volume.

Enjoy!

Update: now to then

The next release from Janes scenic drive is almost ready for release. Here’s an update.

There will be a 30-minute abbreviated version of now to then available as free or name-your-price at Bandcamp, in all the usual download flavors. It’s safely uploaded and ready for release there, but hidden until the official release date.

The official 68-minute version of now to then at Archive.org will be available in both 320Kbps MP3 and FLAC. Hopefully I will get these uploaded sometime during the weekend.

All three files total 700+ megabytes to upload, so finding the time to upload that much data is proving a bit challenging right now.
